The Horne Steam Injection Heater (SIH) has been developed for the rapid efficient heating of a tank (or sump) of water and can be utilised in various industrial and process applications.

Steam is directly introduced, by injection, into the water tank to raise its temperature. The heater is extremely efficient as the full latent heat of the steam is transferred to the liquid.

The steam passes through the centre of the heater and out through tiny gaps at the peripheries of the circular plates and then condenses. The water surrounding the plates is heated by the tiny jets of steam injected into the water (under full load) or hot water condensate (light load). Heat is also transferred through the surface of the plates to the water.

The steam injection heater operates with very little vibration and noise and thus does not suffer from wear. With no moving parts, it also requires no maintenance.
