Electric motors and drives account for more than half of the energy demand in industry. Despite their high efficiency, they offer great potential for savings. A power analyser can be used to identify power guzzlers and provides valuable information for optimisation by taking measurements under different operating conditions. It also helps to determine the proportion of cost-intensive reactive energy and to implement measures for reactive power compensation, which leads to significant cost reductions, particularly for large industrial consumers.

The new PCE-PA 6500 power meter provides companies and technicians with a state-of-the-art tool for accurately measuring current and voltage values. Thanks to its compact design and innovative features, the device is ideal for energy monitoring in a wide range of applications – from main and sub-distribution boards to devices and systems.

The power analyser measures current and voltage values via Rogowski coils or split-core current transformers without interrupting the power supply. The recorded values – including active, apparent and reactive power – are transmitted to an end device at one-second intervals via WLAN. Historical storage and graphical or tabular evaluation of the data are possible, as is export in CSV format.

The device can be configured and interacted with conveniently via WLAN and a web browser or via the specially developed app (BLE) for Android. This means that users can access the recorded data anytime, anywhere.

Even if there is no internet connection, no data is lost. The integrated 32GB memory enables the storage of measured values in the form of CSV files. These can be processed later or transferred via e-mail, FTP or directly via the measuring platform.

The device meets the highest safety standards (CAT III 300V) and is equipped with a robust magnetic back that allows flexible attachment to metallic surfaces.

The power analyser offers a range of technical highlights, including a measuring range for alternating voltage of 40 to 400V, for alternating current of 2 to 9500A and for active power of 80W to 3800kW. The integrated 32GB memory enables data to be recorded at one-second intervals for more than a year. No additional power supply is required for operation, as measurement is carried out via magnetic measuring tips or connection terminals. With a compact design of 123 x 96 x 36mm and a weight of just 202g, the device is easy to handle. It also meets the IP40 protection class, making it ideal for a range of applications.

The power analyser is available in three versions, which differ in the current transformer used and the measuring ranges. The version with a folding current transformer (PCE-PA 6500-R11) has an inner diameter of 11mm and is suitable for measuring ranges up to 80A AC. The variants with Rogowski coils are available in two sizes: with an inner diameter of 50mm (PCE-PA 6500-F50) for measuring ranges up to 20,000A AC, and with an inner diameter of 150mm (PCE-PA 6500-F150) for measuring ranges up to 9500 A AC.

The new power analyser provides a reliable and innovative solution for accurately monitoring and sustainably improving energy consumption and efficiency. An indispensable tool for anyone who wants to optimise their energy costs and protect the environment.
