Smaller units provide secure storage and protection from the elements for equipment such as meters and electrical switchgear. Larger enclosures are used for plant such as pumps or large instruments.
Steel is a common material for enclosures as it is economical, durable and fire resistant. It is usually galvanised and can also be painted or powder coated with a coloured finish in order to blend with the surroundings. Stainless steel is specified where additional corrosion resistance is required.
Aluminium is lighter and is typically used for smaller cabinets and enclosures. It is easily recycled, resistant to corrosion and can be finished with a powder coating for additional durability and visual appeal.
GRP is used for custom-made enclosures, as it can be easily fabricated to any size and shape.
