Context

Contour replaced 92m of outdated and potentially dangerous perimeter heating covers on a link corridor at a hospital in North-West England.

Requirement

The existing radiators were outdated and worn; dust had gathered inside the radiators and was trapped in the fins.

The radiators were in a busy corridor and, due to their location, were being damaged on a regular basis. As a result, the covers had become dangerous with sharp edges.

As with other healthcare environments, the hospital needed easy access for cleaning and maintenance of the heat exchangers underneath.

Another requirement for the project was for new radiators and covers to follow the contours on the walls.

Solution

Contour was able to provide a solution which followed the contours of the wall by utilising the modular design of its DeepClean™ range of low surface temperature (LST) radiators and radiator covers.

The grilles of the radiator covers were manufactured with small, 5.5mm-diameter openings which prevents pencils and other small objects being inserted beneath the covers.

The DeepClean™ LST radiator guard is constructed using a patented, quick-release hinged door. This allows the front of the casing to be laid flat to the floor and provides easy access for cleaning the radiator.

As standard, all of Contour’s LST radiators come with BioCote® protection. This unique powder coating can help combat a range of dangerous bacteria such as MRSA and E.coli.

Outcome

Contour made sure that the hazards from the previous radiators were removed, ensured the grilles were made 'pencil-proof' and that access to clean inside them was easy to help keep bacteria levels down within the hospital.
