Combined heat and power (CHP) , also known as co-generation, is a technology that simultaneously generates heat and electrical power from a single source. sate heat from the power generator is captured via a heat exchanger, and can be used to provide space heating, hot water, or steam. Where a continual source of heat and power is required, CHP systems provide environmental efficiency benefits as well as cost savings over conventional grid electricity.

The engine can be powered by fossil fuels such as natural gas, oil or LPG, or can run on renewable fuels such as wood pellets, biomass or biodiesel.

Micro CHP units are used for small buildings requiring less than 250kW of power.

Small scale CHP units are packaged systems that are suitable for domestic and small business applications, providing up to 500kW of power.

Large scale CHP systems are engineered to suit applications where 1MW or more of power is required.
