R40 Modupak boiler |
The Moto service station on the A1 near Grantham, Lincolnshire, recently underwent a major refurbishment to improve its heating and hot water systems. The service station is one of the busiest in the east of England.
Work was carried out by George Birchall Service Ltd to install a boiler skid system from Stokvis Energy Systems which comprised three R40/120 full modulating, fully condensing Modupak boilers alongside all necessary boiler pumps, safety valves, isolation valves and associated pipework. To ensure their long-term performance and reliability of the boilers, the Stokvis Modupak boilers incorporate a Spirocross separator which removes dirt and air from the system.
Andrew Clay, Contract Manager for George Birchall Service Ltd, said:
“We have been undertaking maintenance and replacement work across some 50 sites operated by Moto for a decade now with many of them featuring the installation of Stokvis Energy Systems boilers, Econoplate Packaged Plate heat exchangers and associated equipment. Moto prefer to use Stokvis equipment and we know we can rely on a very good level of support from the company, including the full manufacturer’s commissioning once our installation is complete.
“In the case of Grantham, the existing boiler house is very cramped and of an age when you have to take full account of the possible presence of asbestos. For these two reasons, and because the original single boiler offered no back-up, we decided to install a Stokvis Modupak incorporating a three boiler set up using an integral controller to create a cascade/sequencing arrangement. This not only offers very good and reliable output, but avoided any need to fix anything to the walls of the old plant room. The Modupak framework comes ‘flat packed’, is easy to install and assemble and includes all the manifold connections, pumps, associated pipework and a low loss header or Spirocross Air/Dirt separator as required or requested.
“Completed last summer, the new boilers feed the rooftop AHUs and the radiators – through a low pressure hot water circuit - and provides all the DHWS for the site via a Stokvis Econoplate Packaged Plate Heat exchanger. The project has been a real success.”
Stokvis Energy Systems and George Birchall Service Ltd have worked together on numerous projects across commercial, education, medical and retail sectors.
